Before all the Christmas craziness Gavin had his Community Helper day at school. They start off the day having the kindergartners dress up as a community helpers and have a little parade around the school. It's so sweet. And Gavin was super excited to be a community helper he had all kinds of great plans of what he could be. Unfortunately it is never easy or something any other 6 year old would think of being. So it usually ends up in a negotiation. And a modified version of what he REALLY wanted to be.
And guess what he wanted to be?
A STORM CHASER. He loves watching the discovery channel and one of his favorite shows is about crazy people chasing tornado's. After all we do live in TX and we do get tornado warnings. He felt that a Storm Chaser was a great community helper because they help us know when a tornado is coming and they track the damage they do.
But how in the world can you explain to a 6 year old with a very active imagination that I can't build him a storm chasing Dominator and no will will know he's a storm chaser if he just dresses normal.
I tried to talk him into a fire man, or a police officer. I even have a swat costume that would be PERFECT but nope none of those were good enough.
So after I crushed that dream is was onto the next. And can you guess what he wanted to be. His 2nd love.
A SCUBA DIVER.
What in the world he wanted to wear flippers a mask and everything.
Clearly this wasn't happening. So again I'm a dream crusher and we finally agreed he could be a Weather man.
After all it's kinda like a storm chaser.
So on the night beofe the parade we talked about what he could wear. We wrote his sign and colored his cloud and lightening bolt. He was super excited for the parade. Then we got dressed and it was MELT DOWN CITY.
He was upset because he was wearing his Church clothes and holding a cloud. He wanted me to make him a green screen and have him hold a clicking thing like the real weather men do.
| Finally sweet Josh helped me convince him he looks just like a weather man and he was once happy to go. Here he is marching in the parade. |
| And like ALWAYS he has his tounge out when he's in deep concentration. |
