Trevor has been working so hard in football. He has to be at school by 6:30 a.m. and practice until 9ish. He's been getting up at 5:45 everyday and never complained. He asked his Dad every night (that he was here) if he could play with him after school.
He hasn't played since he was 7. And then it was only flag football. They don't let you play tackle until you are older but in 4th grade he broke his arm and in 5th grade he broke his same arm. Then they didn't play in 6th grade and now was his chance to play tackle. He made 1st string on the B team.
We were so proud of him and he finally had that big smile that you get when you feel like you accomplished something. While I'm not a fan of football I was so glad he put his whole heart in it and really worked hard doing his best and it paid off.
Well he was going to have his 1st game on Wed. That Monday I dropped him off at 6:30 and then around 9:00 I got a call from the school nurse saying "Trevor got hurt today we think he broke his wrist." I said "you gotta be kidding me." To which she replied. "No Mam I wouldn't kid about something like that." ( I learned the school nurse is super serious) I hurried and dashed to the school and the min I saw Trevor I knew it was broken. Poor kid the whole way to the the hospital kept saying. :"Please don't let it be broken. Please." But sure enough it was. He had a non displaced break on his RIGHT wrist in the growth plate. It was pretty gnarly looking as his wrist bone was bent the other way. I was amazed that Trevor didn't even shed one tear. It really takes alot to get this kid to cry. But when they came in and said "sorry kiddo it's broken and he'll need a cast for about 6 weeks, his eyes started to well up a bit." It was so heart breaking.
#2. It's his right arm. AGAIN. He already writes like chicken scratch because of his two broken arms before. And now he has to write with his left hand. Which is like a Pterodactyl trying to write during a earth quake. It's so bad that not even he can read it. So I've been helping him write all his home work. And oh by does he have a ton of homework.
He's already getting several zeros on assignments as he gets to frustrated and just doesn't do them. He refused to ask for help. Not to mention he couldn't play his clarinet anymore and he wouldn't be able to play if for 6 weeks so he would of failed this semester. So I went up to the school to talk to the councilors to see what we could do. And I have to say I LOVE WALSH MIDDLE SCHOOL. They are amazing. They pulled him out of Band which I'm sad about because he was really good at it. But it was so overwhelming to miss so much. So they put him in as a councilor aid. Which is nice because he now has time to get caught up in. And they gave him a little computer that he carries around and can type all notes and do assignments on them. Other then the stinking projects he has to draw and color. Oh those projects have been a nightmare for us. But they were so helpful and both Trevor and I are so grateful.
As for Football. He still goes every day to support his team and sits on the side line at the games. While I can see the heartbreak in his eyes he cheers them on and is being a good sport.
